Dear Friend,
In this high tech land of abundance and modern living there are many who are frightened and downhearted because of the stress of current times. There have been so many natural disasters and economic scares in the past few years. We seem to barely get over one and then there is something else. Hurricanes seem to continue to come. Wild fires spring up continually. Floods are happening in very strange places. Earthquakes are becoming more frequent.
After the tragic occurrence of “9-11” I wrote a book, Trust & Tragedy because there seemed to be such a void for answers to these tough circumstances. I wanted to help lead people past tragedy to a place of trust. I wanted people to know what to do and what to say when tragedy strikes. I wrote, “Nations and individuals in crisis need anointed bridge builders who know how to lead entire funeral processions across the river of despair and into God’s loving care. Hurting and wounded people are desperate for answers to their paralyzing pain and dulling despair.
God has given us more than a theoretical solution or an intellectual thought process. We can offer more than a therapy program or some experimental painkiller for the soul—we are authorized to offer them healing and hope through the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (Pg. 35)
Now is the time for Christians across the world to stand up and offer hope and healing to these in need. The two recent hurricanes we have suffered from have left—
- Thousands without jobs after years of faithful working and have nothing in sight for new employment.
- An older woman living alone with meager income had just finished the repairs on her little house when disaster struck again.
- A single mother and son living in a small apartment were routed quickly out of bed and out a window as water rose so quickly they could not open the door to escape--losing everything.
- An older pastor staying in Houston for cancer treatment had to leave and go home to get his elderly mother and flee his city before the hurricane hit.
- Another pastor had to wait two weeks before he could bury his father, the former pastor, because of the flooding.
These are hard times. But thankfully I know a safe place. Isaiah 41:9-10 says, “…’You are my servants.’ I have chosen you and have not turned against you. So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you.” (NCV)
And Isaiah also reminded us, "They helped everyone his neighbor: and everyone said to his brother, Be of good cheer." (Is. 41:6)
You and I must understand that what the world needs after a crisis is a friend. They need encouraging words. They need support. James warns us that we are not to only speak soothing words with no meaning, but we are to stand up and do something when there is a need. He said we are not to say to those suffering need 'be warmed, be filled' - and do nothing to give them what is needed. It is time for the church to become the church and let the world know we love in deed and not in word only.
“I have found at times The Church is torn between the practical and the spiritual. Most churches tend to lean toward one side or the other; they are either socially active or spiritually passionate. Very seldom do you find a church that manages to be both, and when you do, you have found a very unusual environment.” (quote taken from Chasing God, Serving Man)
As a GodChaser, we need to be both…we must be spiritually passionate by praying much for these people in need and we need to be socially active by giving to those in need. We need to renew our service to others.
Look around where you are and find someone in need and DO SOMETHING! All of us can do something.
- Make a pot of soup and take it to someone.
- Invite someone to your home for supper.
- Help clean up a house in disrepair.
- Or maybe a church that was flooded.
- Share from the abundance in your closet.
And all of us can give something. Click here to give today, and I will see that those in need receive from your hand. The needs are great!
I am counting on you to help me help them.
I am still chasing………
